flyboy baz:
the mile-high master of funk, disco and house
flyboy baz earned his pilot's licence before he could walk. Or dance. By age 12, he was drafted to teach US Fighter Pilots classified combat manoeuvres and advanced dancefloor techniques. After pioneering commercial aviation’s longest non-stop inflight dance routine, he disappeared from public view for several years. Rumours circulated that he operated a fly-by-night, drink-by-day smuggling operation in the remote South Pacific, delivering crates of Japanese import CDs and Cuban rum to isolated communities in need of rare grooves and Mai Tais. I guess we’ll never know the truth of it.
After realising his true calling was to smuggle classic funk, disco and house into the hearts of party-goers on dancefloors everywhere, flyboy baz emerged to become a leading light of the YourShot class of 2024, finding his role as pivotal member of the now infamous #ShotsFired crew, under the guidance of Dan Discoloro. His now legendary performance on the Pioneer Dj stage at Home nightclub earned him the Your Shot judges 'special mention' award on finals weekend.
Now based in Sydney, flyboy baz has become the go-to Dj to bring a first class vibe to any lounge, bar, club or party. His signature mix of classic funk, soul, disco and house has been known to ignite a dancefloor faster than an F-16 on afterburners.
He can be often sighted behind the decks at the Northern Beaches’ popular 'Wings & Spins' night - serving old school hip hop - or leading the disco-infused shenanigans of Broken Bay Brewing Co’s 'Saturday Night Flights'. At other times, reports have circulated of flyboy baz buzzing the tower (sometimes without permission) at InSitu Manly, Bucketty’s, Broken Bay and Nomad Brewing in Brookvale, Buddy’s Bar Newtown, Unexpected Guest Distillery Marrickville, Bloody Mary's Gazebo Potts Point and Stanley’s on Stanley Darlinghurst.
flyboy baz relishes the challenge of close-quarter flying in unfamiliar skies, having elevated the vibes in situations ranging from a millionaire’s wedding in the Byron hinterland to a fight gym’s christmas party in a brewery. That last one got too close for missiles, he had to switch to guns.
